facilitate the ship the fic is about, or to provide a different antagonist than just a bad guy. i’m reading an old stargate fic and the way the author went OUT of their way to make the only main female character on the cast just. randomly insanely rude/dismissive/uncaring i’m like 💀 girl i get it, you don’t like her, but it’s taking me tf out of the story because of how flagrantly OOC this is 💀 someone else couldn’t have been the jerk here? a random NPC?
