a lot of the discussion I’ve seen around Mamdani’s middling results has been more wrt people who insist he is the futureTM of the Democratic Party and who say that other dems should look to his campaign and take notes—and that’s where I’ve seen most criticisms lie, since he had such an uninspiring win in a sapphire blue city, vs the more exciting results for Dems in much tougher races. He is definitely popular amongst young people bc lbr, young people these days suck and they are mostly antisemites, so of course Mamdani appeals to them. But he’s not the future of Democrats as a party. (Also, he’s got enough skeletons in his closet beyond being a bigoted douchebag that even for the people who can conveniently overlook the antisemitism, a lot of Dems don’t want the type of person who was part of Uncommitted or will pal around with homophobes.)
