Hi everyone, thanks for being here
As you know, the purpose of today’s meeting is to discuss [housing and storage] for the Hooks collection, both here, going forward, as well as downtown at the new museum
[We’re going to break it down into the types of photographs to be housed and stored—glass plate negatives, nitrates, acetates, prints, miscellaneous—each for here as well as downtown.]
[We’re going to start with…]
- Start a meeting off strong
Questions, comments, ideas, opinions?
And we need to discuss… [the other negatives…]
[I know Evan mentioned building additional shelving in Hooks storage for the boxes…]
Looking for suggestions and ideas about […]
- Look over toward the guys
- Keep an eye on the time and a few minutes before/after 30 min, “if we’re going to keep it at 30 we need to wrap it up, or…” look over at J
[I know we’re all busy,] if anyone has any other ideas or concerns, feel free to email me
[I just wanted to make sure we’re all on the same page…]
[For the glass plate negatives, I ordered barrier board boxes cushioned with Volara foam in the three sizes available for 4x5s, 5x7s, and 8x10s, and four flap enclosures that have been pre-scored to fold over the glass. We’ll use [sink mats] for broken plates [and store them flat].
We currently don’t know exactly how many glass plates we have—there are maybe 10 per binder, and the shoeboxes will have between 20 or 50 at a time, plus glass plates scattered randomly in other boxes. Across 33 binders, 11 shoeboxes, a blue metal bin full of glass plates, and all the other boxes, there are likely about [1000] glass plate negatives. It’s recommended to store them [20] per box due to how heavy they are, and [according to Archives.gov, Gaylord Archival] fill in the remaining space in the box with corrugated board or foam. The cushioned boxes range from 5 1/8 to 8 1/8 inches wide [when facing forward], and they have handles on the front to help pull them out.
At [20] negatives per box, that is roughly approximately around [30] running feet of storage needed to house all of the glass plate negatives.
[We currently don’t know exactly how many glass plates we have—there are around 10 smaller negatives and 2 larger per binder across 33 binders, for an estimated 400 negatives, and the shoeboxes have between 20 to 50 at a time, with 3 large shoeboxes and 8 smaller ones, plus that blue metal box and glass plates scattered randomly in other boxes. Jennifer wanted a rough estimate of how much space the glass plates currently take up; the shoeboxes use 12 running feet of shelf space, and…]
